Yosemite Exploration

Minus der berrrrr

Greetings I've been MIA for quite sometime now, my apologies but here I am with a brand new post jammed packed with art! I recently took a trip to the lovely Yosemite and what a refreshing vacation it was. It really was just what I needed to get me back into painting and making some more art! So for now enjoy these quick paintings I did along my hikes throughout Yosemite.

Para Mis Abuelitos

Con Mucho Cariño
These past few weeks my most beautiful and adoring grandmother has been visiting us in sunny side so california from her even sunnier beautifully pleasant home in Puerto Vallarta. I can't even begin to describe or put into words what this woman means to me. I just find it so hard to express what I feel in words that I simply can do nothing else but smile and giggle to myself. She truly is my everything, I hold her so incredibly close to my heart that when she isn't visiting a find it quite difficult to not think about her every moment of my day.

This visit I decided to continue on this little tradition that I started at the age of 3. Growing up my parents sent me off each summer to go stay with my grandparents, thus resulting in this incredibly strong bond. Each visit I would make my grandmother a flower. A few years back I stumbled upon and book in my grandmothers dresser and there they laid each paper flower I had made her throughout the years. Each one progressively getting better as each year passed. This year at the age of 22, although I stopped visiting at the age of 13 I decided to bring the tradition back to life. And so my grandmothers favorite, gardenias.

Ah yes and we mustn't forget my grandmother papochini, aka grandpa, a rooster. Because according to my grandmother "Grandpa likes roosters!." So there you have it a most endearing looking rooster.

My Apologies

Trying to stay focused!
It's has been pretty busy these last couple of weeks and I am sad to say I don't really have much work to post from them. But here are a few pages from my experimental sketch book.

Project 1

My first attempt at etching!

I have finally made it in the class with the heavy weights of CSUN illustration. This semester's illustration class is a bit different. Along with the illustration 2 students, such as myself, there are also the mighty illustration 3 students mixed into the class. This definitely sets up the playing field with extremely high standards. Despite that I continue trucking on through.

For our first project we selected two words out of a hat, mine being sculptural and belonging. Using these two words we then had to illustrate them together. I did some research and came up with several ideas for my words. When I thought of belonging I felt belonging is something very personal, we all strive to belong somewhere but it takes time to grow and develop within each and every single one of us in order to truly feel and find our place. Sculptural, I used as sculpting that process of belonging. All though it refers more to three dimensional space I chose to go about it a bit more abstractly. Unfortunately, my execution wasn't as clean as I had hope for but I will definitely be giving it a bit more attention. For now here is the result. Enjoi.

Pitter Patters of the ♥

Dad I Love You.

Much over due but very necessary. This past Valentine's Day (yes I quite aware its been over a month, my apologies) I decided to extend my love and gratitude to my father. One of the hardest working men I have ever known. I love him dearly, appreciate everything he has done, and sacrificed to support me and our family. I know my dad isn't always remembered and I feel he isn't given nearly enough love. I just wanted him to know that he is always in my heart and I love him more than he can imagine. So please enjoi the sweet little card I surprised my daddy with ♥.

To You From Me

From the Heart.

This I'm aware is a bit dated but I thought it was still worthy of sharing.
About a month ago on MLK Day my very good friend Kevin Luong from Kevin Luong Illustration and I decided to take on a special mission.

For those of you who are unfamiliar I spent the last three months interning at a printing company.During our last month we decided to give a little back to those less fortunate. The mission was to create one hundred brown bag lunches to give to the homeless people down in skid row.

I'm sure we are familiar with the common brown bag lunch, and how plain it can be.So Kevin and I decided to spice things up a bit. I had this idea that once these people received there homemade lunches they would eat it and then have nothing left to remind them of the day.Sure they would have their memory of it but I wanted to go that extra mile and make that much more special.I thought if they had something tangible, something they could keep in memory then it would achieve just that.I went a step further and decided it would mean even more if it was handmade. So in result I decided to make one hundred individual tags all watercolored in different shades saying enjoy.I wanted to remind those who received the lunches that there are people out there that still care.
I shared this special vision with Kevin and he helped me achieve just that.

One Hundred, Personalized, Handmade Tag for each of the lunches sent out.
Enjoi :)
